FAQ for 433TxRx systems

Led on transmitter always on

What happens?

By switching on the transmitter the led is always on without pressing any buttom. Even with switching off and on again the problem is still present.
The problem depends most time on low voltage of the batteries in the transmitter. The first transmitters are more critical than the later ones (refer to errata note for 433TX). May be after a long time switched off the problem is solved by clearing all voltages.

What to do?

Take off the old batteries. Shorten the contacts in the battery holder and switch on. This will clear all voltages in the module. Switch off and insert new batteries. Now it should work again. On newer transmitters the modification on the switch is done and the voltage is automatically cleared by power off. If you have one of the first transmitters and you are able to, you can do the modification yourself.

Problems with controlling the functions

What happens?

The servo module for triggering the shutter moves from one position to the other. The servo modules for horizontal and vertical direction control moves only from time to time. The problem depends an errornous receiption of control information. There is a security mechanism in the transfer protocol to avoid malfunction by other transmitters on the same frequency.

What to do?

Be sure to place the receiver module (HF module with antenna) outside of metal frames, like the rig. Avoid the use in the near of running computers and wireless weather sensorics. Even inside houses there may be a reduced range for a propper use depending on the materials in walls.

Using 433TxRx systems with Gentled

What happens?

As you don't see the Gentled work (Infra Red) one thinks it is not necessary to programme the shutter output of the 433Rx. Wrong! In most cases the camera starts taking picture one after the other. In other words, the shutter servo is in the down position. So you have to programme this output too.

What to do?

The easiest way to do that is to use an extra servo and programme this output as if the servo was to operate the camera. Now programme the output so that Off=Up and On=Down. With the servo you can use a very small amount of servo travel and get a very fast reaction to pressing the button on the 433Tx. Change the servo for the Gentled and you are done.

Without servos LED on receiver flashes, with servos LED did not flash

What happens?

After power on with connected servos the LED on the receiver did not flash. There is no function of the receiver. If the servos are disconnected the LED flashes.

What to do?

Looks like problem with power supply. Be sure to have more than 4.7volts and less than 6volts connected to the receiver connector SV1. If you have less than 4.7volts the reset generator holds the microcontroller to reset condition constantly and there is no chance to get a function. Some servos need higher current and that leave to drop down the voltage of some power supplies (used batteries, limited current of power supply). Replace used batteries and set right voltage and current on power supplies.
